When our client Brian reached out to Reid It Right Construction during a major renovation of his historic Lubbock home, he needed a smart solution. His new replacement windows had to look exactly like the originals to get the green light from the local historical society.
We love finding practical, transparent solutions for our clients. After looking at the property, we custom-tailored a brilliant hybrid window strategy using two different manufacturing lines. This approach perfectly balanced historical compliance, superior durability, and smart budgeting.
Here is how we successfully structured Brian’s new window installation:
- First Floor (Marvin Elevate® Series): On the lower level, where touch and street-level visibility matter most, we installed the premium Marvin Elevate series. This features a beautiful, genuine wood interior to maintain the home’s historic warmth, wrapped in a maintenance-free fiberglass exterior.
- Second Floor (Amsco® Hampton Vinyl Line): For the upper level, we utilized Amsco’s Hampton vinyl series. This line delivers exceptional thermal performance and long-term reliability while keeping the project practical.
The secret to tying both levels together seamlessly was the inclusion of Simulated Divided Light (SDL) grids on every single window. These grids mimic the exact shadow lines and architectural dimensions of traditional, multi-pane historic windows. The result? The historical society completely approved the update, and Brian’s home retains its iconic historic charm with vastly improved energy efficiency.
